Henry David Thoreau
Ecotherapy can roughly be divided in three cycles; the cycle of nature, health, and well-being; the cycle of wholeness, healing, and growth; and the cycle of deeper nature and spiritual ecology, or Earth Wisdom.
Ecospirituality, which is part of the third cycle, is connecting the science of ecology with theology, spirituality, or mysticism, and can help people experience the sacredness of the natural world around them as well as the Divine Source of Life living within it. This experience is mainly on a deep soul level, where the spiritual interconnectedness with nature makes it an ethical path to walk on.
Out of this soul connectedness we're hoping to be a guide on how to become more active in connecting with, participating with, and caring for the earth and all other beings of creation. Respect and reciprocity are key in this level.
My own path in Ecospirituality has brought me towards land healing and creation restoration. Through all the dark valleys of life, I try to bring hope and healing, and guide others through the beauty of the journey with the land. I am connected with the Radical Joy for Hard Times initiative, and follow their footsteps in bringing healing through Acts of Beauty in wounded places.
Together with some good friends I am facilitator of Crann na Beatha (Tree of Life), which is an expression of Forest Church. Once a month we come together for nature immersion, following the 8 Festivals of the Celtic Wheel of the Year.
Followers of the Christ Tradition in the historic Celtic Church lived in a close connection with the rhythm of the seasons and the 5 elements of nature. They perceived nature as animated by visible and invisible life, but also by the Christ himself. As a follower of the Celtic Christ Tradition myself I believe that all beings of creation, whether humans or other than humans, are equal and sacred, and embedded in this divine rhythm of life. I therefore follow the cycles of the Celtic Wheel of the Year and try to implement earth based celebrations to my daily life through different creative rituals. Next to that I try to bring hope and beauty in the cycles of birth, growth, death, and rebirth through the 3 different cycles of ecotherapy and through nature based creativity and storytelling.
